Xplorr vs Finout A Finout alternative, compared honestly

Finout pulls cloud, Kubernetes, data and AI spend into one bill and re-cuts it with Virtual Tags. Xplorr covers AWS, Azure and GCP with a published price and a chat workflow. Here is how they compare.

Every Finout row below was checked against Finout’s own documentation, pricing page and product pages in September 2026. Where their own material did not confirm a capability either way, the row was left out rather than marked as missing. Xplorr rows reflect the private beta as it ships today, including the plan each feature sits on.

What Finout does well

Finout is a strong platform and it is ahead of Xplorr on breadth, on certifications and on one part of the AI story. Worth being straight about it:

  • One bill across far more than three clouds

MegaBill unifies AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle and Alibaba with Kubernetes, Snowflake, Databricks, Datadog, Grafana, Confluent, Twilio, GitHub, CircleCI and the major AI providers. Xplorr covers three clouds plus OpenAI, Anthropic, Datadog, Snowflake and Databricks. If your bill is spread across data and SaaS vendors, Finout sees more of it.

  • Virtual Tags applied retroactively

Finout re-cuts spend with Virtual Tags without touching the original resource labels, and states that a rule change applies to historical data instantly rather than waiting on a reprocess. Xplorr has virtual tags and ordered cost categories, but retroactive re-cutting of history is Finout’s stronger suit.

  • A large, GA MCP server

Finout publishes a hosted MCP server at a fixed endpoint with OAuth and roughly 30 documented tools, read only by design, usable from Claude and Cursor. Xplorr also ships an MCP server, so neither tool is the AI-native one here; Finout simply has more surface exposed.

  • SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 today

Finout publishes SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification plus GDPR alignment. Xplorr is still in its SOC 2 Type II audit. If your security review needs both certificates attached, Finout answers that today.

Where Finout has gaps

These are limits Finout documents in its own material, not accusations. Each one matters to some teams and to nobody else.

  • No base price anywhere

Finout publishes tier names and a few add-on deltas but says the price depends on the size of the environment you connect and is quoted per contract. There is a 14 day trial, which is more than several rivals offer, but you cannot budget for it from the website. Xplorr lists $49/mo for Growth.

  • Teams does not work in private or shared channels

Finout states plainly that its Teams bot is not supported in private or shared channels, so the app has to be installed against a standard public channel. If your cost conversation happens in a private channel, that is a real constraint.

  • Slack and Teams are delivery, not a bot you talk to

Finout sends anomaly alerts and scheduled reports into Slack and Teams channels. Its conversational assistant lives in the product and over MCP rather than in chat. Xplorr’s digest lands in the Slack channel and the bot answers cost questions there. Its own Teams bot is still in development.

  • Exports are PDF, image and CSV

Scheduled Finout reports are image or PDF, with CSV export available elsewhere in the product and capped at 10,000 rows for the instant export. Xplorr exports the same numbers you see on screen as CSV, Excel or PDF, which matters if finance works in Excel.

  • History depth is not published

Finout does not publish how much cost history it keeps, and its full data export is capped at six months. Xplorr states 13 months on every plan. Neither is necessarily longer; only one of them tells you.

  • Commitments cover AWS and Azure

Finout tracks Reserved Instances and Savings Plans for AWS and Azure, and notes that Azure does not expose a monetary commitment value so some dollar metrics cannot be calculated there. Xplorr tracks Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, Azure reservations and GCP committed use discounts, so GCP commitments are covered.

Where Xplorr and Finout diverge

Breadth vs a published price

The honest trade

Finout ingests more of your bill than Xplorr does and carries two certifications Xplorr does not have yet. Xplorr covers the three infrastructure clouds plus AI and a few data vendors, and tells you what it costs. Which one wins depends entirely on how much of your spend sits outside AWS, Azure and GCP.

Chat that acts

Where a recommendation gets decided

Both tools reach AI assistants over MCP and both push alerts into Slack (Finout also into Teams; Xplorr’s Teams bot is in development). Xplorr adds a bot you can question in the channel, and on Enterprise an approval in the console with pending, approved and rejected states, a reason recorded on every decision and a default 72 hour expiry.

Three clouds, deeply

Depth in a narrower frame

Xplorr spends its surface area on the three clouds: network transfer split by egress type, invoice reconciliation against synced cost, tag policy compliance scoring, carbon from each provider’s own data, and a data health check for empty syncs and missing days. That is the return on covering fewer sources.

Common questions

Finout supports far more integrations. Why would I pick Xplorr?+
Only for a specific reason. If a large share of your bill sits in Snowflake, Databricks, Confluent, Twilio, CircleCI, Oracle or Alibaba, Finout will see spend that Xplorr cannot and you should pick Finout. Xplorr is the better fit when AWS, Azure and GCP are effectively the whole bill, you want the price on the page, and you want the daily digest and cost answers to arrive in Slack rather than in a dashboard.
What does Finout cost?+
Finout does not publish a base price. Their pricing page describes three tiers (Business, Pro and Enterprise), says the fee is a flat annual amount tied to your committed cloud and AI spend rather than a per-seat or percentage charge, and asks you to request a quote. A few add-on deltas are published, but not the headline number. They do offer a 14 day trial. Xplorr publishes $49 per month for Growth at GA, with Enterprise quoted, and is free during the private beta.
Is Finout’s Kubernetes integration really agentless?+
Partly. Finout reads Kubernetes metrics from Prometheus or Datadog rather than running a permanent collector of its own, and markets that as agentless. The per-cluster Prometheus path does deploy a scheduled exporter job inside your cluster that writes metrics to a bucket you own, and their own material lists a dedicated in-cluster pod as coming soon. Xplorr reads OpenCost, so there is a CNCF component in the cluster either way. Neither tool is truly zero-footprint for containers.
Do both have an MCP server?+
Yes, and Finout’s is the larger one. Finout publishes a hosted MCP server with OAuth and around 30 documented tools, read only by design. Xplorr publishes an MCP server on the Growth plan and above. This is not a gap either way; it is a capability the whole category now has.
How hard is it to evaluate both at once?+
Not hard. Both read billing data with credentials you scope yourself, so running them side by side for a month does not conflict. Xplorr connects in one sitting per cloud account with a read-only IAM role, service principal or service account, and pulls history directly from the provider, so there is nothing to migrate.
